What to Wear (Couples Session)

What to Wear for Your Engagement or Couples Session

We get this question a lot—and for good reason. Picking outfits for your session can feel like a lot of pressure, but it doesn’t have to be. The goal isn’t to look perfect. It’s to look like you—comfortable, confident, and connected.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when choosing what to wear:

Keep it simple
Neutrals, earthy tones, and soft textures tend to photograph beautifully. You don’t need to match exactly—just aim for colors that complement each other. Avoid loud patterns or big logos that can distract from your faces and the connection between you.

Dress for the location and season
If we’re shooting in the forest, at the beach, or downtown, think about what will feel right in that setting. Layers are great if the weather’s cooler, and comfortable shoes are always a smart choice. You want to be able to move, walk, and just be yourselves.

Dress up or dress casual—it’s your call
Some couples love an excuse to dress up—flowy dresses, suits, or something a little extra. Others feel more like themselves in jeans and a t-shirt. Both work. What matters most is that your outfits reflect you. If dressing up makes the session feel more special, go for it. If casual feels more authentic, that’s perfect too. There’s no right or wrong here.

Bring options
If you’re unsure, bring a second outfit. We can start with something casual and switch it up halfway through. It gives us more variety and gives you a chance to relax into the shoot.

Ultimately: wear what feels good
The best photos happen when you’re not worried about your clothes. If you feel good in what you’re wearing—if it fits well, feels like you, and lets you move freely—that confidence will show up in every frame.

This session is about capturing your connection, not creating a magazine spread. Dress like yourselves, show up as you are, and we’ll take care of the rest.
