Backup Gear & “Plan B” Options

Your wedding photos are once-in-a-lifetime. So it’s fair to ask: what happens if something goes wrong?

Gear fails. Weather shifts. Life throws curveballs. A professional photographer plans for all of it. Here’s what to ask—and what we do—to make sure your day is covered, no matter what.

1. Do you shoot with dual memory card slots?
This means every photo is saved to two memory cards at the same time—a backup is created instantly. If one card fails, nothing is lost.

We shoot with 3-4 cameras between us and all have dual card slots for backup protection.

2. Do you bring backup cameras and lenses?
Stuff happens. Cameras fall. Lenses jam. A photographer should never shoot your wedding with only one camera or one lens.

We bring 3-4 cameras and a full set of lenses. If something breaks, we switch and keep going.

3. How do you protect our images after the wedding?
Taking the photo is only half the job. Safe storage is just as important.

We back up your images in three places:

  • On two memory cards during the day

  • To an external hard drive at home that night

  • And again to secure cloud storage

Your photos are safe from hardware failure or anything unexpected.

4. What’s your Plan B for bad weather or lighting?
If it rains, the sun vanishes, or the indoor lights are awful, we are ready.

We bring off-camera lighting, flashes, and weatherproof gear. We’ve shot in all kinds of weather conditions and the images are still absolutely beautiful. We embrace the weather on the day and work with what we have been given. Bring prepared with extra gear and lighting makes for greater peace of mind.

5. What happens if you can’t make it?
If a true emergency happened and we couldn’t be there, you’d still be in good hands.

We have a backup plan. We work with a several trusted professional photographers, and make sure a capable replacement stepped in. If one of can’t be there due to a health issue we have a second back up available to cover. This has never happened in the 5 years we have been photographing weddings but know we have you covered just in case.

6. What about after the gallery has been delivered?
Downloaded your gallery but lost the images?

I keep a copy of all the images I delivery to my clients on a cloud service. We suggest you download and save your images to both an external drive and a cloud service but if the worst happens your images are still safe with us.

Final Thought
When you book a professional, you’re not just getting pretty photos—you’re getting peace of mind. We have planned for the “what ifs” so you don’t have to. Once we are booked we have your back…no matter what.

Got questions? Send them my way. We are happy to walk you through how I keep your wedding photos safe, no matter what.
